Martello Tower

Aldeburgh is privileged to be home to a truly historic structure in the Martello tower. Built between 1804-1812, Martello towers are small defensive forts that were constructed during the British Empire in an attempt to defend the South and East coast of England in order to deter the French. In total 103 towers were built in England and built on various coastal towns all the way from Seaford to Aldeburgh.
