Aldeburgh - a seaside delight

9th September

Great Suffolk sausagesSorry it’s been a while since I spoke to you last, but I’ve been rushed off my feet. Our hotels have been so busy this summer. In fact, it’s been our best August ever! As predicated, many people seemed to take their holiday in this country and I have heard tales of woe from those who ventured abroad and were stung by the wrath of the Euro. The weather’s been great too, which has been a blessing to us all.

The children have all gone back to school now and Aldeburgh is now quieter, although there are still plenty of people on holiday or day trippers visiting our restaurants for a delicious lunch. Talking of food, the Aldeburgh Food and Drink is just around the corner. It starts on the 26th September and it’s a fantastic event if you’ve not been before. It lasts for ten days and is basically a celebration of the fantastic food and drink that is produced in this part of Suffolk. There are so many things to do, including cookery demonstrations, farm walks, behind the scene tours of local producers such as Pinney’s at Orford or Emmett’s at Peasenhall and even demonstrations on game butchery. It’s a real foodie event and everyone seems to get involved, even our chefs, who will be doing cookery demonstrations on the 26th and 27th. Why not pop along and see them.

The Crown at Woodbridge

Everything you need to know about is on the website www.aldeburghfoodanddrink.co.uk/index.php I might see you there! I’d like to take my faithful dog Ben, but somehow I think that the delicious array of meat offerings would be too much for him to resist!

The Crown at Woodbridge opened this summer after a substantial refurbishment programme and is doing a roaring trade. It really is a matter of the phoenix rising from the ashes in all its glory. We used Chelsea-based designer, David Bentheim, who has done a spectacular job. If you’re in the area, why not pop in for a coffee or a bite to eat. Steve and Becky will be there to welcome you and make you feel at home and if you fancy have a look at the bedrooms, just ask. Check out the website www.thecrownatwoodbridge.co.uk

Well, I’ll say cheerio for now and will drop you a line before I go on my holiday at the beginning of October.

Best wishes

Grahame
